18 years ago, approximately 250 acres of beautiful mountain land was donated to the Church of God for the purpose of establishing a ministry that would minister to young, troubled boys.  Thus, the New River Boys Ranch was established.

Through the years, hundreds of young men have received ministry during difficult times in their lives.  Dr. Carl N. White has served as the Director of this vital ministry effort since its inception.  Three years ago, the scope of the ministry was enlarged to include young women, as well.  The name was changed to New River Children’s Home in 2005 to reflect the new emphasis.  It is owned and operated by the Church of God in West Virginia.

In 2004, the ministry was once again expanded to include a Camping and Conference Center.  The New River Ranch Ministry Center includes 8 dormitories that sleep 26 each.  All 8 dormitories will accommodate 208 residents.  In addition to the dormitories, a modern motel facility was constructed.  The motel has 12 rooms with 2 queen beds and 4 rooms with 1 queen bed and a sleeper sofa.  Combined, these rooms will accommodate 32 residents.  The motel features a beautiful front porch that overlooks the mountain views, a kitchen, and a large great room that is suitable for relaxing.  The great room can also be setup for conferences and training sessions.  The motel and dormitory facilities combined will accommodate a group of 240 people.

The New River Ranch Ministry Center is located just minutes away from the New River Gorge Bridge in scenic Fayette County, West Virginia. 

Home of the annual Bridge Day Celebration, people come from around the world to base jump from this beautiful bridge.  The area is also known for having some of the best white water rafting in the nation.  During the fall of the year, the Gauley River Dam is released to produce Class VI rapids.  It is a favorite stopping place for serious white water enthusiasts.  The area also boasts of mountain horseback riding, mountain climbing/rappelling, and hiking.

In the winter, many groups schedule the lodging at the New River Ranch Ministry Center and take advantage of Winterplace Ski Resort, located just a short distance away in Ghent, West Virginia.  Winterplace is a very popular place for skiing and snow-tubing.  Without question, the New River Ministry Center is located in one of the most beautiful and tourist-friendly areas in the United States.

We have recently added a softball field, go-cart track, and a beautiful playground complete with climbing features, slides, swings, and concrete sidewalks with park benches. 

These amenities, along with a complete commercial kitchen, gymnasium, and indoor heated pool provide an excellent place to schedule your next youth group retreat, family reunion, or leadership training event.
